Why you need one

Any independent house construction site in Bangalore needs power for mixers, drills, welding, lighting, and — critically — curing (keeping concrete wet as it sets, which often needs pumped water and lighting over several weeks). Running all of this off a diesel generator for months is expensive, noisy, and draws complaints from neighbours. A temporary BESCOM connection is the legal, practical way to get grid power to a site that doesn't have a permanent connection yet.

What the process looks like

A temporary connection follows a similar shape to a new connection, but sized and priced for short-term use:

Timeline and validity

Expect 10–20 working days from application to meter installation, depending on load size and how quickly the site is ready for inspection. Temporary connections are typically sanctioned for 6 months and can be extended if construction runs longer — worth planning for if your build timeline is tight.

Tariff — the part people forget

Temporary connections are billed at a higher per-unit tariff than a standard residential connection. It's a fair trade during construction, but it's a good reason not to leave the temporary connection running longer than necessary once the house is livable — converting to permanent sooner rather than later saves money.

What happens when construction ends

Two paths, both handled through BESCOM: the temporary connection is officially disconnected and your deposit is refunded, or — more commonly for a house you're going to live in — it's converted to a permanent residential connection. Conversion is usually simpler than applying fresh, since BESCOM already has the site and load details on record.
